UK VOICE: Raheem Sterling charged with assault

One of England’s most talented young footballers has been charged by the authorities of assaulting a 27-year-old woman following an alleged altercation in November.

Liverpool player Raheem Sterling, 18, was summoned to Liverpool youth Court today, after being charged with common assault.

England international Sterling, who was born in Jamaica but resides in Woolton, Liverpool, had his solicitor, Mick Hogan, appear on his behalf.

Hogan told the court that Sterling pleads not guilty to the charge.

Police say that a woman, who the teenager knows, suffered “slight” facial injuries following an alleged fracas in Toxteth on November 2.

The case was adjourned to Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on February 22.

Sterling, who has impressed at Liverpool season with two goals and two assists in the Premier League this season made his England debut against Sweden in November.
