$13.5m EU support for banana farmers

2013-02-01 13:44:12 | (0 Comments)

The European Union has provided some $13.5 million to banana and plantain farmers who have been set back due to the affects of Hurricane Sandy.

The funds will go towards the purchasing of fertilisers and insecticides for the farmers.

Some 1,000 farmers are expected to benefit.

Farmers in the eastern parishes of St. Mary, Portland and St. Thomas saw extensive damage to their farms, following the passage of Hurricane Sandy last October.

The project which is funded through the European Union Banana Support Program is being overseen by RADA, the Banana Board and the All Island Banana Growers Association.
