Condor attempts to block St Kitts AG from becoming senator

2013-02-03 10:56:26 | (0 Comments)

The former deputy Prime Minister of St Kitts-Nevis Sam Condor has sought an injunction seeking to bar Attorney General Jason Hamilton from serving as a senator in the National Assembly.

The suit, which was filed in the St Kitts-Nevis High Court on Friday, also seeks to block an increase in the number of senators in that legislative body.

The increase in the number of senators was approved by the National Assembly last Tuesday, despite concerns by members of the governing party and the parliamentary Opposition.

Attorney-at-law Vincent Byron Junior says the suit was also filed on behalf of Shawn Richards, the leader of the main opposition People’s Action Movement.

Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence, Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas, Speaker of the House Curtis Martin and Mr Hamilton are listed as the defendants to the suit.
