NewsJPS removes nearly 7,000 illegal connections2013-02-03 11:07:23 | (0 Comments)
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it removed over 7,000 illegal connections in several inner city communities last week.
The JPS says the removal of the illegal connections is part of an intensified drive to reduce electricity theft, which cost the company US$30 million last year. The energy producer says last week personnel attached to the company removed over 6,500 'throw-ups' and just under 1,000 bridged meters and self connections in Waterhouse, Olympic Gardens, Tower Hill, Seaward Drive and surrounding areas. JPS says since the start of the year three persons have been arrested for illegal abstraction of electricity. Sixty two people were arrested last year for being involved in electricity theft.
