Paulwell to indicate alternative energy source for Jamaica this week

2013-02-03 12:22:16 | (0 Comments)

The country is to know this week what alternative energy sources the Government will be pursing to diversify the energy sector and reduce the country’s oil bill.

Jamaica’s oil imports amounted to $2.4 billion in 2011.

Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell, says talks between the Jamaica Public Service Company and the Office of Utilities Regulation regarding the Liquefied Natural Gas option were completed last week and that the Government would make a decision this week regarding the source of energy it would move forward with.

He maintains that the Government is committed to the National Energy Policy to reduce the cost of electricity and production following the failure of successive administrations.
