UTech to embark on gay sensitisation project

Following last year’s much-publicised beating of an alleged gay student at the University of Technology (UTech), the Administration has decided to embark on a sensitisation and tolerance project.

UTech says the project is aimed at raising the awareness of its students, staff and the wider public to issues of respect and tolerance.

The project, which is to run for one year, will be launched tomorrow.

The programme is supported by the European Union.

On the evening of November 1 last year, a male student was set upon by a mob after he was allegedly found in compromising position with another male student.

He reportedly ran and sought refuge in one of the guard rooms on the campus as a mob descended on him.

While in the security post, security guards were caught on tape violently beating the young man.

The guards, who were employed to Marksman Limited, were fired and later arrested and charged by the police.
