Champion bee, Christian Allen of Ardenne High School was crowned the winner of The Gleaner's Children's Own Spelling Bee 2013-14 competition over Stephen Nelson of Glenmuir High School.

The two finalists spent minutes competing against each other before Allen took the trophy with the winning word: 'H-I-E-R-U-R-G-Y'

He triumphed after Nelson of Clarendon failed to spell 'D-I-E-R-V-I-L-L-A'

Allen is coached by the famous Reverend Glen Archer.

The Ardenne High student is the 53rd champion and has reclaimed the title for his school, following Hanif's Brown victory in 2011.

Nine-year-old Chaunte Blackwood of Wolmer's Preparatory, who placed third in the competition, was declared champion girl.
