2013-02-11 07:27:28 | (0 Comments)

Pope Benedict is to resign on February 28.

No reason has yet been given for the impending resignation.

Benedict was elected Pope of the Roman Catholic Church on April 19, 2005 following the death of Pope John Paul II.

He is the 265th pope and the sixth German to serve in that capacity since the 11th century.

Benedict, born Joseph Ratzinger on April 16, 1927 has led the church during a time in which membership is declining in his native Europe but expanding in Africa and Latin America.
