West Indies beat New Zealand by 48 runs in the Super Six round of the Women's World Cup in India to improve their chance of meeting Australia in the final slated for February 17.
The victory represents the first for the West Indies over New Zealand and puts the Caribbean side to second place in the standings with six points. Sent in to bat, West Indies posted 207 for nine off their allotted 50 overs with the Jamaican pair of Stafanie Taylor and Shanel Daley scoring most runs. Taylor top scored with 49 from 53 balls, while Daley hit 37 from 64 deliveries. Taylor then returned to pick up two wickets to help bowl New Zealand out for 159 off 44.3 overs. Deandra Dottin also took two wickets, while Tremayne Smartt was the pick of the bowlers with three for 39 from nine overs. West Indies’ victory also boosted the chance of defending champions England to qualify for the final. The defeat brought New Zealand's net run-rate to 0.952 against 1.079 of England, for England to qualify on net run-rate, England must now beat New Zealand in their final game on Wednesday and hope Australia heavily beat West Indies.
