Worthy Park workers back on the job

2013-02-12 08:41:28 | (0 Comments)

Workers at the Worthy Park sugar estate in St. Catherine are expected to return to work today.

About 500 workers at the estate remained off the job calling for the removal of the farm manager, who they said was treating them disrespectfully.

Chief delegate at the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, Arlene Thomas, said the workers were also angered by the Farm Manager's attempt on Friday to cut their pay.

However, BITU’s Assistant Island Supervisor George Nicholas says a back to work formula was arrived at during a meeting at the labour ministry yesterday.

He says it was agreed that work would resume today pending a meeting on Thursday with the management of the estate.
