Health department declares St Ann malaria-free

2013-02-15 09:02:04 | (0 Comments)

The St. Ann Health Department has declared St. Ann as malaria free following a reported threat in January from an imported case.

Public Health inspector for the parish Karen Brown told the monthly meeting of the St Ann Parish Council yesterday that measures which were implemented following the discovery in January have been effective in preventing a spread of the disease.

She said a survey was conducted in the affected community of Cardiff Hall, impacting a total of 944 premises and 2,345 persons who could have been at risk.

Brown said only 16 persons were identified as having a fever, but none presented any evidence of a local transmission of malaria.

The health inspector has disclosed that dengue fever cases have also been reduced.
