Special-Ed teachers should lobby for assistance - Thwaites

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has suggested that the country’s special education teachers form themselves into a group to lobby his ministry and other stakeholders for assistance.

Thwaites has also called on the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) to ensure that such a group has its full support.

He was speaking at today’s final day of an Advanced Seminar in Special Education at the JTA Head office in Kingston.

Some 50 teachers from schools in Kingston & St Andrew, St Catherine and St Thomas participated in the two-week course aimed at equipping them with the requisite skills to meet the varied needs of students in their classrooms.

Thwaites says the formation of a special-education association would help to amplify the voices of those with special needs in the Jamaican education system.
