NewsEducation budget gives little support to early, special education2013-02-17 11:39:21 | (0 Comments)
The education minister has acknowledged that the budget has to be right sized to give more support to early childhood education.
Currently, only three per cent of the education budget is used to fund early childhood and special education combined. This compares with the 40 per cent that is used to fund primary and secondary education, respectively and the 17 per cent that goes to tertiary education. Minister Ronald Thwaites also lamented what he said was the grave injustice meted out to teachers in the early childhood system. He acknowledged that in most cases they were being underpaid, but said there are plans to address the issue.
