Cop on child pornography charge remanded

2013-02-20 12:48:21 | (0 Comments)

A policeman charged with being in possession of child pornography was remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The accused, who is attached to the St Catherine South Police, is reportedly a member of the Safe School programme.

He is also charged with sexual grooming and sexual touching.

It is said that he had sexual contact with the 15-year-old complainant and used his phone to take photos of the child's vagina.

His phone was inspected by his superiors and an investigation launched.

Statements were then collected and a file sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, who ruled yesterday that he be charged under the Child Care and Protection Act.

The accused was remanded until March 12 when the matter will again be mentioned.
