NewsJTA central executive meets today2013-02-22 10:28:22 | (0 Comments)
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) is to hold a central executive meeting today in Kingston, to discuss a range of issues chief of which is expected to be the government’s proposal for another wage freeze up to 2015.
Our newsroom understands that members of the JTA met with the minister with responsibility for the public service, Horace Dalley, yesterday, and the matter was discussed. However, it is understood that the Government has not put forward a formal proposal and the JTA is insisting that it will not agree to a wage freeze without a detailed offer from the administration. A JTA source has said the association has expressed willingness to play its part in helping the country to secure an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, but is insisting there must be a transparent negotiation. Other issues to be looked at during today's meeting include the operation of the Jamaica Teaching Council and the Draft Teaching Council Bill which the Minister of Education is expected to take to Parliament soon.
