The court hearing involving teenage Liverpool and England player Raheem Sterling, who is charged with assaulting of a woman, has been adjourned today at Liverpool Crown Court.

Sterling, 18, from Toxteth, Liverpool, is charged with assaulting a 27-year-old woman who he knows during an alleged incident in Toxteth on November 2, last year.

Police say that the woman suffered “slight” facial injuries following an alleged fracas.

Sterling did not appear in court today and was represented by his solicitor John Brown, who requested for the court case to be adjourned.

Brown said a request was made to the Crown to investigate something related to the case, which the Crown had investigated.

"The defendant is on summons so there's no reason for him to be present."

The hearing will now take place on March 1.
