The Opposition has expressed grave concern about the burning of a Jamaican flag in a TV commercial by German-based electronics store, Saturn.

The commercial posted on YouTube has been getting significant page views.

In a release this afternoon Olivia Grange, the Opposition spokesperson on culture, urged the Jamaican Government to immediately write to the German Embassy in Jamaica bring its attention to the situation.

Grange said while advertisement which has heavy Jamaican influences may not have been done with malicious intent, it is unacceptable to have images of Jamaica’s national flag or any other flag being desecrated.

At the same time, she has called for the Government to continue the work of an Inter-Ministerial Committee of the previous Jamaica Labour Administration for the management, regulation, use, display and performance of Jamaica’s national emblems and symbols.
