Head of the police traffic division, Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis - File.
Head of the police traffic division, Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis - File.
The head of the police traffic division senior superintendent Radcliffe Lewis has described as unfortunate South West St Catherine Member of Parliament, Everald Warmington's assertion that the issuing of traffic tickets to motorists on the country's toll roads is illegal.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Warmington charged that the toll roads are private as they have not been gazetted as public thoroughfares.

Warmington said by virtue of that fact, the police have no legal right to issue tickets on roads such as Highway 2000.

However, Senior Superintendent Lewis says Warmington's statement is not based on fact.

SSP Lewis is warning that persons caught driving above the stipulated speed limit or who cause any accident because of careless driving on any roadway including the toll road will be charged.
