$29 million worth of cocaine seized at Sangster Int'l

Thee Jamaica Customs Department has made its third cocaine find in three weeks.

The latest find was made yesterday when 20 packages of cocaine weighing 26 kilograms were seized at the AJAS Vehicle Maintenance Area at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

The seizure resulted from a joint operation by the Jamaica Customs Contraband Enforcement Team and the Trans National Crime and Narcotics Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The Customs Department says the drug which was packaged with masking tape and concealed in a black suitcase has a street value of $25.9 million.

No arrests have been made.

However, AJAS Cargo Handlers faces a penalty of $5 million for breaches of the Customs Act regarding the concealment of prohibited items in the Customs Area.

Over the last three weeks, the Customs Department has seized just over 87 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of approximately $88 million.
