Prison boss keen on father-behind-bars probe

2013-03-04 10:23:25 | (0 Comments)

The Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Sean Prendergast is warning that there will be serious implications if a probe now underway shows that his officers facilitated an inmate to impregnate a woman.

Ex-constable Rushon Hamilton is reported to have become the father of a child while in custody awaiting trial for the murder of 14-year-old schoolgirl Jhaneel Goulbourne.

This is Hamilton's second child.

Hamilton, who has been in custody since 2008 again became a father three months ago.

According to Colonel Prendergast, the Department of Correctional Services does not allow conjugal visits.

Hamilton who was at the Horizon Remand Centre for at least four years told probation officers that the child was born to his fiancee of six years.

The probation report was submitted at Hamilton's sentencing hearing on Friday.

Last year October, Hamilton was convicted for Goulbourne's murder and on Friday he was sentenced to life in prison.
