Workmen from NWC and West Indies cesspool cleared a blocked drain on the CSO compound this morning – Norman Grindley/Chief Photograph.
After returning to work this morning, several employees of the Central Sorting Office were sent to the Windward Road Health Centre after complaining of feeling ill.
Our news centre understands that at least two persons fainted.
The Office was closed last week, after noxious fumes at the facility caused some people to fall ill.
The source of the noxious fumes has not yet been identified.
However, teams from the National Environment and Planning Agency and the National Water Commission are at the location at this hour, continuing their investigation.
Initial checks by the authorities showed that the fumes did not originate from the Central Sorting Office building.
Last Thursday, the noxious fumes forced the emergency services to close several schools and some streets in the area.
The authorities say 60 people had to seek medical attention because of the effects of the fumes.
