I did it for Cash Plus depositors, says Wildman

Former Cash Plus Liquidator and former Trustee in Bankruptcy, attorney-at-Law Hugh Wildman has sought to explain his decision to represent former Cash Plus boss Carlos Hill.

Yesterday, many people were left shocked when Wildman, appeared at Hill’s Home Circuit Court trial seeking an adjournment on behalf of the alleged fraudster.

Wildman was seeking time for Hill to complete efforts to recover money to pay depositors.

Speaking on RJR's Hotline this morning Wildman insisted that his involvement in the case is geared entirely toward the benefit of the depositors.

"I'm doing all this thing to assist the Jamaican people," he said, noting that he was not being paid.

Wildman said it was Hill who sought his help after indicating that he wants to repay investors of the failed investment club.

According to the attorney, discussions were held with the Director of Public Prosecutions who suggested that he (Wildman) should appear in court to seek the adjournment since it would add credibility to Hill's position.

Wildman maintains that his involvement in the Carlos Hill case should not be viewed as a conflict of interest.

He added that he is in no way neglecting investors in the failed investment scheme.

Cash Plus went into liquidation in 2008.

About 40,000 depositors are owed approximately $10 billion.
