NewsEarl Jarrett appointed ECJ Commissioner2013-03-05 16:33:37 | (0 Comments) ![]() Jamaica National General Manager, Earl Jarrett - File. The vacancy was created when the ECJ Chairman Professor Errol Miller resigned on December 31, 2012. Jarrett also serves as Chairman of the Jamaica Cancer Society, Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board and Honorary Secretary of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica. The Governor-General has expressed appreciation to Professor Miller for 12 years of service and commitment to the Electoral Commission. The Electoral Commission of Jamaica was established in December 2006 and is a permanent independent and autonomous authority which reports to Parliament. It replaced the Electoral Advisory Commission which was established in 1979. The ECJ comprises four selected members, nominated by the Governor General, four nominated members – two nominated by the Prime Minister and two by the Leader of the Opposition – and the Director of Elections who reports to the Commission.
