In Parliament a short while ago, debate on the anti-lottery scam bill was suspended as Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller rose to pay tribute to the Venezuelan leader.
"The President was a good friend of Jamaica," Simpson Miller said adding that Chavez' support came at a very important time for the island.
The Opposition Leader Andrew Holness also had glowing words.
"He was a good man with a good heart and had a special place in his heart for Jamaica," Holness said.
Meanwhile Simpson Miller said special arrangements will be made to pay official tribute to Chavez.
