JATOO claims are misleading says Transport Authority

2013-03-07 09:13:46 | (0 Comments)

The Transport Authority says claims by the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO), that changes were done to taxi routes in sections of the island without consultation are misleading.

Spaulding and Christiana in Manchester are among the areas in which changes are reportedly being made.

JATOO president, Louis Barton, had said operators were not consulted about the changes and only learnt of them after going to renew their route licences.

But in a response yesterday, the Transport Authority's Manager of Communication, Petra-Kene Williams, said the adjustments are the outcome of ongoing dialogue between recognised taxi associations across the island and the Transport Authority.

Williams says JATOO is not recognised by the Authority and may not be privy to talks on issues relating to the organisation and the operations of public transportation.

She said the route taxi road licenses have been amended to facilitate route specific operations.

In the meantime, JATOO says it will be seeking an urgent meeting on the issue.
