|
Unions representing workers at the Monymusk sugar factory in Clarendon are to attend an emergency meeting tomorrow, regarding a redundancy exercise at the Pan Caribbean Sugar Company, which owns the factory.
The meeting is scheduled for 9.30 p.m. at the Bernard Lodge Head office in St. Catherine. Clifton Grant, the First Vice President of the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU), told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that the unions were informed that the company plans to lay off more than 30 employees this Friday. However, he says the unions object to the way the exercise is being carried out and have asked the company to withdraw letters which have been issued to the workers.
