DHL Express boosts overnight Caribbean service

DHL Express has improved its overnight offering to customers in the Caribbean and Central America, reducing transit times across the region by 24 hours.
The improved DHL Express service, which began at the end of January, provides faster service, linking customers in major Caribbean markets – Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Port au Prince, Haiti – to other countries in the Caribbean and Central America.
In a release, DHL said that for example, shipments from Jamaica to Panama will now be handled overnight at no extra cost, instead of requiring two days as they did before.
“These transit time improvements provide our customers in the Caribbean with an improved level of service within the region and around the world,” said Andrew Williams, DHL Express Vice President for Sales in the Americas Region.
“While our document volumes have remained steady over the last four years, DHL Express has seen a dramatic increase in parcel volumes to and from the Caribbean. At the same time, shipment volumes from the Caribbean to Central and South America and from Central and South America to the Caribbean have grown by double digits,” he added.
Williams said “DHL Express is strengthening our air network in terms of capacity and connectivity to best serve our customers and to respond to this double-digit volume growth.”
“Lots of documents and packages need to be moved around the Caribbean quickly and efficiently, and we responded to our customers’ requests for expedited service,” said Reiner Wolfs, Managing Director for DHL Express in the Caribbean.
The enhanced service will make exports and imports easier and more convenient for customers, Wolfs said.
DHL said transit time has been improved for shipments from markets including Anguilla, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Aruba, Barbados, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Honduras, Martinique, Nevis, Nicaragua, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, and the British Virgin Islands.
The company said it adjusted its own internal connections to speed up delivery and is offering the enhanced service at no additional cost.
DHL also recently extended its online tool, DHL EasyShip, to almost all countries in the Caribbean region.
The DHL online tool, which comes with training and full technical support, also provides real-time tracking, instant pricing, customized reporting, and shipment history among other features.
