Two fire men were taken to hospital this morning for minor injuries they received while extinguishing a fire at the Wyndham Hotel in New Kingston.

Assistant Commissioner of the Fire Brigade, Raymond Spencer is commending fire personnel who responded to the early morning blaze, for what he describes as a marvellous job.

Seven units from Kingston, Half Way Tree, York Park and Spanish Town responded to the fire.

Fire officials say the fire started shortly before midnight.

Assistant Commissioner Spencer told our news centre a short while ago that cooling down operations are now underway.

He says investigators will conduct a thorough examination of the affected areas after cooling down operations are completed.

He estimates that only five per cent of the property was affected by the blaze.

According to Spencer, the fire started in the hotel’s kitchen and quickly spread to the ballroom.

However, he says fire fighters were able to contain the blaze which was fully extinguished several hours after it started.
