St. James guest house operator arrested for electricity theft

2013-03-14 13:34:08 | (0 Comments)

A St. James guest house operator was among 12 persons arrested in the latest Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), anti-theft programme.

A statement from JPS said the arrests took place between February 27 and March 7 in the Corporate Area, St. James and Manchester.

This brings to 56 the number of arrests made across the island for the illegal abstraction of electricity.

According to JPS, the guest house was found to have a sophisticated device hidden inside the wall of the building to prevent most of the electricity consumption from being detected.

Meanwhile, JPS says its teams have noted that streetlights and JPS infrastructure had been damaged due to an overload of illegal connections tapping into the structures.

Eighteen have been replaced with anti-theft safety features.
