NewsOpposition supports extradition of scammers2013-03-15 14:47:53
| ![]() JLP Spokesman on National Security and Justice, Delroy Chuck - File. The opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), says it strongly supports any move to extradite Jamaican lottery scammers to the United States. Most of the victims of the scam are senior citizens in the US. At a press briefing yesterday, National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, indicated that persons involved in the scam could be extradited to the US to face charges. He said US Senators believe that extradition would be an effective tool in helping to send a signal to scammers, that US law enforcement is taking the issue seriously. JLP Spokesman on National Security and Justice, Delroy Chuck, says it was hoping that extradition proceedings could have begun during the previous JLP Administration. Chuck is dismissing comments from Justice Minister Mark Golding that no preparatory work was done on legislation to outlaw the scam under the JLP administration. Chuck says the current legislation, which will directly outlaw the scam, benefits from ones such as the Cybercrimes Act, put in place by his government.
