JPS 360 Megawatt proposal deadline today

Today is the deadline for the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), to submit details of an alternative proposal for supplying 360 megawatts of power to the national grid.

The proposal is to be submitted to the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR).

Last month, the OUR announced it had ended the request for proposal (RFP), process with the JPS for the 360 megawatts power plant.

JPS had missed a January 30 deadline to provide final details of how it would undertake the project. It instead made an alternative proposal to the OUR.

However, the OUR said the company's alternative proposal could not have been considered within the context of the RFP as it was now an unsolicited proposal.

Today's deadline also applies to several other companies that had expressed interest in providing the generation capacity since the termination of the RFP process.

The OUR says it will only entertain firm proposals in a state of readiness to be finalised with minimal negotiations.

The OUR is expected to complete its review of whether the proposals are feasible by month-end.
