In a release this afternoon, the hotel’s General Manager, Jeff Lesker, said internal investigations have found no basis for the claim in some sections of the media that unauthorized activity or misbehaviour by any staff member may have resulted in the fire.
In fact Mr. Lesker is praising staff members for their quick action which he said resulted in the successful evacuation of all guests.
He said the workers were back on the job assisting with remedial operations.
According to Lesker, there were no casualties, although a few guests and two firemen were taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
The Wyndham Kingston is also thanking firefighters for their quick response to the blaze and neighbouring hotels for accommodating its guests.
Fire investigators are still carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the early morning blaze.
