Bossy murder trial expected to begin today
2013-07-09 11:14:41 | (0 Comments)
The murder trial involving dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel is scheduled to begin today.
The trial should have started yesterday but was pushed back due to the absence of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ case file.
When the case was called up the prosecutor who was asked to mention the case did not have the case file.
The court was further told that the prosecutor assigned to the case was unavailable.
Defence lawyers have indicated that they are ready to start the trial today.
And the attorneys say if the matter does not proceed they will be applying for bail for Kartel’s co-accused Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson.
They say their clients have been in custody since they were charged in October 2011.
Kartel, whose given name is Adijah Palmer, McDonald and Thompson are on trial in relation to the killing of St Catherine businessman Barrington ‘Bossy’ Burton.
Kartel is on bail on that charge but cannot take up the bail offer because he has another murder case pending in the Home Circuit Court.
The police say Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walker's Avenue in Gregory Park, St Catherine in July 2011.
