The Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) says the reported mob killing of an alleged cross-dresser in Adelphi, near Montego Bay, St James on Monday should be treated as a disrespect to Jamaica’s democracy.

In a statement condemning the incident, J-FLAG said Jamaicans are to stand up for justice and be more respectful to persons who are lesbians, gays, bisexuals or transgender.
The police say Dwayne Jones, of Paradise Rowe and Porto Bello in St James was at a party when he was allegedly set upon by a group of persons.
A number of explosions were heard and the police were summoned.
They discovered Jones’ body on the roadway, with multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound.
The lobby group says murders, beatings and evictions should be seen and treated as an affront to democracy, peace, justice, harmony, and freedom.
The group adds that Jamaica cannot become the place of choice to raise families if a divisive atmosphere is perpetuated through what it calls the skewing of objective truth to suit subjective prejudices.
J-FLAG is also noting the reported murder of two gay men at an anti-gay religious rally organized by a coalition of evangelical churches in Haiti and what it says is the continued misuse of medical data by members of the faith-based community to fuel anti-gay sentiments.
J-FLAG is encouraging persons to support the police with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
