The police constable who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, 22-year-old Jessica King, in Portland last night then shot himself is said to be responding to treatment in hospital.
The police say, 23-year-old constable Lincoln McKoy has bullet wounds under his chin and on the top of his head.
Chaplain of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Bishop Gary Welsh; the commanding officer for Portland Superintendent, Wayne Cameron, and other members of the force have made efforts to visit relatives of the dead woman.
Bishop Welsh, who visited the Buff Bay station where McKoy was assigned, has urged the injured constable’s colleagues to remain strong and has described the murder and attempted suicide as an unfortunate incident.
Reports indicate that King’s mother, who is a District Constable, had to seek medical attention after hearing about her daughter’s death.
It is reported that the couple had been having problems and Miss King had moved out of their home.
