The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is moving to introduce a park-and-ride service to help boost revenues for the cash-strapped bus company.
Chairman of the JUTC Garnett Roper says the service is to begin in Portmore, St Catherine in September.
Roper says the service is being used to capitalise on residents in the Municipality who want a more convenient commute while at the same time reducing their transportation costs.
In addition, he says it is also aimed at increasing adult ridership which he points out will bring in more money.
The JUTC Chairman says the company is in discussions with five churches to use their parking lots to facilitate the service.
Roper added that service will be offered on a round-trip basis per day.
He says the cost is yet to be finalised.
The JUTC has been struggling to increase its revenues.
The Government has said that it is not in a position to increase subventions to the bus company.
