The Police High Command has ordered an internal investigation into allegations that sex crime investigators failed to follow protocol in probing the rape of an 11-year-old girl.
The girl, who is now 13 years old, was reportedly brutally raped by a member of an infamous St Catherine-based gang in November 2011.
Her family says despite making several reports to Center for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), both in St Catherine and in Kingston, nothing has been done in the case.
According to family members, they have made countless visits to CISOCA offices but each time they get no answers.
Family members further say the situation is even more disheartening as the 13 year old girl continues to be haunted by the trauma of the rape as her alleged attacker still resides in their St Catherine community.
In a release, the Police High Command said it has taken note of the situation.
It further says detectives from CISOCA under the supervision of senior officers from the Criminal Investigations Branch in Kingston have taken over the investigation.
And the high command says it has ordered a probe to determine whether or not the investigation into the rape of the girl by a gang member was undertaken in accordance with Force policies and guidelines.
