Two men are now in police custody and a firearm seized after the son of a Mandeville businessman was held hostage at his house in the Manchester capital this morning.
According to police reports, earlier this morning, the victim, a university student, went to pick up some money from a remittance service.
On returning home he was held up by two men who robbed him of the cash.
An off-duty policeman who was alerted went to the studentís assistance while calling for backup from the Mandeville police.
The attackers held the young man hostage inside the house while the police engaged them in negotiations.
The police managed to break down two doors to the house in an attempt to rescue the hostage but the men locked themselves inside a room with the hostage.
The situation was eventually neutralised when one of the attackers called his mother who came to the crime scene.
After speaking with the mother, the attackers released the hostage and surrendered to the police.
A firearm was recovered as well as cash amounting to over $100, 000.
The attackers are now being interrogated by the Mandeville police.
