Members of the Island Special Constabulary Force in Port Antonio, Portland, have made a major dent in the illicit practice of electricity theft following the seizure of approximately 5,000 feet of electrical wire yesterday.
The early morning operation also resulted in the arrest of nine residents, including three women, from Windsor in the Rio Grande valley.
The police also seized light and wall sockets, adapters and extension cords.
The nine persons, whose names are being withheld, were charged for illegally extracting electricity and were offered bail in the sum of 30,000 each.
They are booked to appear in the Port Antonio Resident Magistrate's Court on September 24.
Yesterday the police also visited an informal settlement near the old Port Antonio Marina, where they removed illegal wiring from five houses.
However no arrests were made as no one was at home during the operation.
