$140 million dollar expansion for St Annís Bay Regional Hospital
2013-08-31 18:37:08 | (0 Comments)
The St Annís Bay Regional Hospital is to undergo a $140 million dollar expansion.
The project is being funded by the National Health Fund and when completed, is expected to enhance patient care with the construction of two additional operating theatres, a six-bed recovery area and the acquisition of surgical equipment.
Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson, who broke ground for the project yesterday, pointed out that in recent years, the services at the hospital have been stretched. Citing one example, he says just over 3,000 surgeries were conducted at the facility in 2011, up from 2,700 in 2008.
The expansion work will be conducted in two phases, both of which are scheduled to be completed in this financial year.
Dr Ferguson says the government has already spent more than $500 million this year on upgrading work at health facilities island wide.
Last year the government spent some $375 million dollars on infrastructure improvement projects in the public health sector.
