The Negril Resort Board has made a decision to write to the Minister of Tourism to recommend the immediate suspension of jet ski operations in the resort town.
The decision was made at the regular monthly meeting of the resort board this afternoon.
The move comes in light of concern about the huge number of unlicensed jet ski operators causing safety and environmental issues in Negril.
According to Board Chairman, Cliff Reynolds, the organisation wants jet ski activities to be suspended until a review of the policy governing their operations is undertaken.
The move also follows a recent accident in Negril which resulted in serious injury to a visitor.
Arising from that incident, one man is now before the court for illegally operating a jet ski.
Last month Reynolds had said 90 per cent of the jet skis in Negril were not licensed and that there was a black market being operated on the beach.
