Police Commish lauds cops for not firing weapons on crowded bus

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington has heaped praises on members of the St Andrew Central Division following an operation yesterday in which they apprehended a criminal suspect on a crowded bus without firing their weapons.
Owen Ellington - File
The suspect reportedly boarded the Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus in his bid to escape after he and an accomplice allegedly robbed a business place in the New Kingston area and fired at a licence firearm holder who challenged them.
He was captured and the firearm recovered by personnel from the St Andrew Central Police Division who were quickly on the scene.
Ellington says the actions of the police personnel and the professionalism they displayed once again makes it clear that it is not the intention of the police to use deadly force unless suspects shoot at them or threaten the lives of others.
As a result, he urged armed criminals not to challenge the police when they are confronted.
