Tivoli Committee to meet with House Speaker
2013-09-12 18:19:33 | (0 Comments)
Members of the Tivoli Committee are to meet with the Speaker of the House next Tuesday as the citizen's action group seeks audience in parliament to make a presentation on the 2010 West Kingston incursion.
Committee representative Lloyd D'Aguilar says the group wants to bring to the attention of legislators how residents continue to be affected by May 2010 West Kingston incursion.
D’Aguilar says residents want the government to pay restitution to persons who are still suffering three years after the tragic event.
The May 2010 operation saw days of gun battles between thugs said to be loyal to then strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke and members of the security forces.
The security forces went into West Kingston to execute an arrest warrant on Coke.
More than 70 persons were killed and dozens injured during the operation.
In the meantime, D’Aguilar is calling for the government to release the Terms of Reference for the Commission of Enquiry which is to be held into the May 2010 West Kingston operation.
He says he is concerned that the terms have not been made public.
According to D'Aguilar, the Tivoli Committee will only support the enquiry if the International Criminal Court is involved in the proceedings.
