T&T Opposition calls Caribbean Airlines subsidy cut announcement deceptive
2013-09-14 12:43:07 | (0 Comments)
The Parliamentary Opposition in Trinidad and Tobago has described the government’s decision to discontinue millions of dollars in subsidy to Caribbean Airlines (CAL), as a hoax.
On Monday, Finance Minister Larry Howai announced that the subsidy, which was estimated at US$40 million last year, would end on October 1 this year.
However, Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley yesterday described the announcement as yet another act unnecessary deception by Mr Howai.
Dr Rowley questioned why the Kamla Persad-Bissessar administration did not tell the country that huge sums of taxpayers’ dollars would still be provided to CAL, but will not be called fuel subsidy.
