JLP looking to move up date of annual conference
2013-09-24 09:51:31 | (0 Comments)
The executive of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is now working to finalize a date for its annual conference as internal election activities get into high gear.
The party has decided to bring forward the conference usually held in November but General Secretary Dr. Horace Chang says no date has yet be decided on.
Dr. Chang says the party is looking to work out the best possible option.
Member of Parliament for North East Manchester and JLP deputy leader Audley Shaw will be challenging Andrew Holness for the leadership of the party at the annual conference.
The JLP’s the Standing Committee has requested that the Secretariat explore the possibility of holding Conference at an earlier date as it believes a protracted campaign period would not in the best interest of the Party or the Country.
Some 5,000 delegates are eligible to vote for the next JLP leader.
