The Jamaica Public Service is reporting that about 2500 customers in sections of St. Ann, St. Catherine and St. Mary are now without electricity, as a result of the theft of oil from the one of the company’s substations early this morning.
The company says thieves gained access to the Blackstonedge Substation located close to the community of Devil’s Race Course at the border of St. Catherine and St. Mary and stole oil from a transformer.
JPS says the theft has disabled the Substation, adding that it could take between one and three days to have operations at the Substation restored.
The company says it’s investigating the incident.
