Prospective Dominican DPP declines post
2013-09-26 10:37:30 | (0 Comments)
Guyanese-born attorney Kurt De Freitas has indicated he will no longer be accepting the post of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Dominica.
He was due to take up the post next month.
But Attorney General Levi Peter told a news conference yesterday that he had received a letter from De Freitas citing unsubstantiated statements about him on the internet as a reason for declining the job.
In his letter, De Freitas said that his decision to withdraw was not one he took lightly.
One Dominica news website reported Wednesday that concerns had been raised about De Freitasí age, saying that he was over 65, which is the maximum age of the DPP as required by the Constitution.
The post of DPP became vacant after, Gene Pestina, stepped down earlier this year.
