Education Minister Ronald Thwaites is currently meeting with the unions involved in a growing impasse with leadership of the University of Technology, UTech.
Tensions between the UTech management and its staff unions increased over the last 48 hours with the university threatening to take action against the unions over what it calls attempts to discredit the institution.
In a full-page advertisement in The Sunday Gleaner, the UTech Academic Staff Union and the UTech Jamaica Administrative Support Staff Association declared that they had no confidence in the institution.
That was the latest move by the unions to protest what they allege to be the victimisation of two of their members as well as governance issues at the school.
Thwaites says he will be meeting with all the parties involved beginning with the unions this morning.
The Education Ministry says it has been watching the impasse, but given that the issues are not being settled, its input is now required.
Last week Thursday, the Academic Staff Union staged a protest forcing the cancellation of classes.
