General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour party, Dr Horace Chang, is seeking to assure that no willy-nilly changes will be made to the delegates list as the secretariat carries out reviews ahead of the party’s internal elections.
The assurance comes amid concerns raised by leadership aspirant, Audley Shaw, that the list could be compromised as Chang is still entertaining discussions from some constituencies.
However, Chang says the historical lists are being reviewed because in some cases even candidates have changed in some of the constituencies for which these lists are being used.
Chang says security measures have been instituted at the party’s headquarters to ensure that the delegates list cannot be tampered with.
Shaw has refused to sign the party’s code of conduct for the election until he gets a copy of the official voters’ list.
However, Chang has reiterated that the party’s constitution requires that candidates and caretakers be allowed to make changes to the list up to thirty days before an election.
He says based on that stipulation an official list cannot be generated before October 10.
Chang is expected to meet with the various parties, including Shaw on Wednesday to carry out another round of review of the list.
