FOOTBALL: Hydel target Manning Cup second round spot today

Last year’s beaten finalists Hydel will make another attempt to qualify for the second round of the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup, when the urban-area football competition resumes today with 12 games across four groups.
Hydel, who suffered their first defeat of the season on Friday against Calabar, will visit Ascot High today for a Group ‘A’ top-of-the-table clash.
The Geoffery Maxwell-coached Hydel will qualify for the second round if they achieve victory over Ascot High and third place Calabar fail to beat fourth place Edith Dalton.
The group also features Jonathan Grant hosting St Andrew Technical High School.
Over in Group ‘B’ Excelsior, Norman Manley and St Jago will continue their battle for the second round spots from the group.
Excelsior High, who are leading the group by two points, will host fourth place Cumberland, second place Norman Manley will visit last place Haile Selassie, while third place St Jago will play away to fifth place Waterford.
Over in Group ‘E’, Bridgeport High will host Jamaica College in a top-of-the-table-clash, while third place Jose Marti will entertain last place Tivoli, and fourth place St Andrew College will play second-from-the-bottom Ardenne High.
The remaining games are from Group G.
Those matches are: runaway leaders and already qualified Holy Trinity visiting St Mary’s College, Campion hosting Innswood, and Trench Town playing Meadowbrook.
All matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
Rescheduled daCosta Cup games on today
There are two rescheduled games on today in the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup rural-area Manning Cup football competition.
Christiana will host Holmwood in a top-of-the-table Zone ‘G’ match, while Garvey Maceo, who are second in Zone ‘M’ will entertain last place Bustamante in the other match.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
